Our Governing Body operates as a whole unit, we meet each half term to discuss matters relating to the effective and efficient running of our school. A Business meeting is held during the first half of each term, concentrating on policies, procedures and finance and a Development meeting during the second half of each term focuses on the improvement and development of the setting. Some individual Governors have specialist responsibilities (see below); they have taken on these roles because they have expertise/ special interests in the area and they work closely with the appropriate staff and report back to the full Governing Body. All decisions are made by the full Governing Body after discussion and deliberation.

Claire Cleaver Jones CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
Finance Governor
Personal Development |
My name is Claire Cleaver-Jones and I am Chair of Governors. I became a parent governor of Frizington Preschool and Nursery in 2020 just after my eldest daughter started at the school. My eldest has now moved onto primary school and my youngest daughter is enjoying her time at the school. In my time as a governor I have been a parent governor focusing on finance and pupil premium, and Vice Chair. I took on the role as Chair of Governors in January 2024.
I have worked within the Engineer and Project Management fields for over 15 years and currently work within the field of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. My experience in my paid roles have allowed me to gain skills in finance, strategy and critical thinking – all skills which I find have been useful in my role on the governing board.
I have no previous experience in the education sector, however have been involved in youth volunteering in various ways since I was 18, with a particular interested in promoting STEM to young children and their families.
Outside of work and the school and as a mum of two I don’t’ get much free time, but when I do, I like to explore the beautiful lakes and forests nearby and enjoy partaking in an afternoon tea or painting with friends.
I believe Frizington Nursery and Preschool is a special place, with a wonderful family feel and am proud to be part of the wider school team helping it grow and succeed as it moves forward. |
Grant Quinn
VICE CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
Safeguarding Governor |
My name is Grant Quin and I am a parent Governor at the Nursery and Preschool. I took on this role at the start of 2023 and have enjoyed the challenge of giving direction and strategic oversight to the Headteacher. I am currently the Vice Chair, Safeguarding Governor and part of the Finance Committee. I have found these roles fulfilling and enjoyed giving back to the local community, by striving to continually improve the experience every child receives at Frizington Nursery School. My background and current role is within engineering however I thoroughly enjoy applying my methodical mindset to this role. I have really enjoyed applying the transferable/soft skills I have developed in my career to a role that I have had no previous experience in. When not in work or supporting the continuous improvement of our School Nursery, I enjoy training for triathlons. I think this sport takes a disciplined and resilient mindset, something I think helps with being a governor and ensuring the regulations and guidance is adhered to, while keeping that personal approach. |
